Yesterday I hopped on the train to Winchester and visited the discovery centre for the first time to lend a hand with a site specific installation called In the Thick of it – A Woven Space by Laura Ellen Bacon. The gallery space has been completely transformed by the branches and willow, which have been woven together to construct the most beautiful, fluid shapes. I’m really interested in traditional crafts so I was thrilled to get the chance to help weave some of the structures. It was fascinating to watch the installation take shape and to see this documented through photography, film and poetry.
In the Thick of it is part of Making It, which is a celebration of craft and creativity in Winchester this month. You can see the finished piece for yourself from 12th of October to the 6th of January at The Gallery at Winchester Discovery Centre.
