When the weather starts getting colder and there are fewer hours of daylight, its a great idea to have a few crafty projects that can keep your little ones occupied indoors! Crayon rubbings are brilliant because they allow your children to discover new textures and you most likely already have all the materials at home. All you need is some paper, crayons and some textures, like coins and leaves.
Simply arrange your textured items on the table and place your paper over the top. Press down on the paper and colour with the crayon until you find the texture underneath. If you are doing this activity with younger children you may want to use small pieces of masking tape to hold everything still when they get enthusiastic with the colouring!
Encourage them to experiment mixing colours and using different pressure with the crayons. If you fancy doing something festive you could make Christmas wrapping paper by using white crayons on a roll of brown paper. When summer comes around again you can take crayons on a walk and discover different textures outside!
