Book Review : Handmade Home

This book is wonderful because it is filled with beautiful, practical things to make and also invites the reader into the home of the author. Handmade Home is written by Amanda Blake Soule and the focus of the book is her children and it is inspired entirely by their family life. Each project is introduced with a story which explains how they came across the craft and how they have personalised it.

Book Review : Handmade HomeThis book is divided up into five sections, Nourish, Nurture, Play, Seek and Retreat. All of the projects have been designed to encourage imagination and growth, a sense of adventure and exploration. Contained within these pages you will find step by step instructions to make woollen hats, a pillowcase dress, a hot water bottle cover, garlands, wall pockets, a bag to keep treasure in and lots more besides.

Book Review : Handmade HomeBook Review : Handmade HomeThese original projects use a mixture of different materials and crafts, including decoupage, papier mache and woodworking, but are predominantly textiles based. Some makes are simple adornments to existing garments and others are made from scratch. In particular there are some fantastic ideas to help you use your children’s artwork in your projects.

Book Review : Handmade HomeThis book shows you how to make the everyday into something really special. The book starts with a brilliant quote, which sets the scene perfectly : “Each day provides us with the opportunity to create something”.
