Last week I shared the presents that I stitched for the ladies in our bridal party. Our Mums and two sisters, who were the bridesmaids, loved their handmade wash bags, complete with make up rolls, hand cream and knitted facecloths. This week I am going to share the four knitting patterns that I wrote especially for these gifts. They all use a combination of knit and purl stitches so are really good for beginners. I have designed the patterns so that they all have a border, in order to frame the pattern and to minimise the cloth curling at the edges. The first pattern this week is called the Dashed Stripe! Depending on your tension, this facecloth should knit up to be approximately 6 inches square. My facecloths used 15-20 grams of yarn each. This facecloth is knitted on size 4mm needles and using double knit wool. I used a cotton yarn because it washes well and is soft to wash your face with. I knitted each pattern twice in blues and greys. Take a peek at the photo below to see how the pattern looks in different colours. Using 4mm needles, cast on 34 stitches.
Knit 2 rows.
Knit the pattern below 4 times.
1) K2, *K4, P6 repeat from * to last two stitches, K2
2) K2, Purl to the last two stitches, K2
4) K2, Purl to the last two stitches, K2
5) K2, *P6, K4, repeat from * to last two stitches, K2
6) K2, Purl to the last two stitches, K2
8) K2, Purl to the last two stitches, K2
Then knit the pattern once from row 1 to row 6. Knit 3 rows. Cast off.
Happy Knitting! Pattern number two, Roman Stripe will be posted tomorrow!
